Leadership
- Assistant Floor Leader
Biography - State Representative Jackie Walorski
was first elected to office in 2004, vowing to represent the
community in the same fashion as former Representative Dick Mangus.
She has quickly become a leader in the Statehouse and is currently
serving as Assistant Republican Floor Leader. She served as
Vice-Chair to the Family, Children & Human Affairs Committee in the
2006 session. Representative Walorski's legislative work has
included legislation ranging
from the Voter ID law, requiring all voters to show picture ID, to
the Stop Killing Cops Bill, which requires more severe sentencing
for convicted cop-killers, to consumer protection initiatives that
protect against identity theft. She has also been an advocate of
more efficient government and a balance budget. Prior to her service
as a State Representative, Jackie founded Impact International, an
international relief agency. Impact International works extensively
in Eastern Europe. As part of her work with Impact, Jackie lived in
Romania for a few years. Representative Walorski is a Northern
Indiana native. She graduated from Riley High School (South Bend) in
1981 and received a degree in Communications and Public
Administration from Taylor University in 1985. She is married to
Dean Swihart, who teaches in Mishawaka.
